E; a
DEF AN 115
Suspension system that utilizes an electronic control module to interpret the signals sent by sensors and to activate actuators in order to adapt vehicle damping force to the driving conditions to result in optimum ride, using an outside power source or not. (R)|a|
CONT AN 120
A basic point to remember is that not all electronic systems are the same. They utilize different components to accomplish specific functions. But there is a basic thread that runs through all the systems and it is that each application of electronically controlled suspension utilize a computer, typically called a module, to control operation of the system. |a|

CONT 1: Electronically managed suspension : this system makes it possible to reconcile passenger comfort with sporting road holding, by adapting instantaneously to the type of driving and the pattern of the road. |b|
CONT 4: Various types of electronically controlled suspensions attempt to optimize the control of either body or wheel, or both - either alternately, switching between the two different operating regimes, or simultaneously, per some weighting strategy. |e| Electronically controlled suspensions (air suspension type, adjustable damping force shock absorbers type and so on) that control the stiffness of springs and shock absorbers to meet road conditions have recently been commercialised. |f|
CONT 5: To improve stability, performance and passenger comfort, particularly when negociating bends, accelerating or decelerating, sophisticated suspension systems have been developed. These are described variously as adaptive, active or computerised suspension systems. They all essentially use control valves to modify the damping rate of the suspension hydraulics to individual wheels depending on the dynamic load the vehicle experiences. |g|
CONT 6: Since displacement of wheel to body is random, an overall assessment of road surface irregularities is of limited benefit for computer controlled suspensions. |h|

DEF FR 215
