A very general realization of an independent wheel suspension of a car is the spatial five-point suspension where the wheel-carrier is constrained by five spatially arranged rods of different lengths with spherical joints at both ends (Fig. 1). ((...)) The movement of the wheel carrier with six degrees of freedom is constrained by the five rods, resulting in a system with one degree of freedom which corresponds to the suspension movement of the wheel suspension. The spring suspension is realized by a helical spring which is fixed to one of the rods. Furthermore, each rod has one isolated degree of freedom due to its movability around its longitudinal axis but which doesn't influence the kinematical behaviour of the mechanism. |a|
