The major components within the shock absorber which influence the performance characteristic shape are the "leak" or "bleed" orifice(s) and the jounce and rebound "blow-off" valves. At low velocities the hydraulic fluid passes through the very small bleed orifice formed by a groove ot cut-out at the blow-off valve seat. As the velocity and working pressure rise, one of the blow-off valves will open (depending upon the direction of the shock absorber movement) and a progressively larger, less restrictive, "orifice" is presented to the oil flow. |a|
